The workhorse of any successful content marketing effort is an editorial calendar. Plan your work and work your plan. Over the years, we’ve tried to perfect an editorial calendar template using off-the-shelf tools such as spreadsheets, project management tools, and creatively formatted text documents. None of them did what we wanted, and they were a pain to manage. We decided to build our own editorial calendar template tool.

We are proud to announce the beta launch of PlanITPDQ, a SaaS-based editorial calendar template tool. Here are the key criteria we set out:

  • Collaborative. Generating ideas, tracking projects, managing dates, and planning should be a team sport. PlanITPDQ enables everyone to get on the same page.
  • Easy to Use. Your marketing team may include a geek who loves to dive deep into all martech applications (give that person a hug, by the way, because he or she will save your butt a million times over …). But think about everyone who needs to view and use the editorial calendar. Is your CEO or sales manager going to spend hours learning how to use a new tool just so that they can see what’s going on? No, and they shouldn’t have to. How about super small marketing teams, including one-person founders? The PlanITPDQ editorial calendar template is intuitive for everyone to jump in and use with no learning curve.
  • Quantify results. No one likes to click around into multiple programs to find out how many people viewed that blog post, opened that email, or watched that video. PlanITPDQ captures top-line analytics so that marketers can go to one source for up-to-date information. You can even manually enter stats for things such as event attendance.
  • Customizable. Every team is different – you may focus on ebooks and events, while the next team might love podcasts and bylines. PlanITPDQ lets users set up their editorial calendar in a way that makes sense to them.

While we are in beta, all accounts are free. You can log in, set up your PlanIT with any categories you want – byline opportunities, events, videos, speaking opportunities, email newsletters, crazy ideas – whatever you want. Add your projects, drag and drop them to pin them to actual dates, and invite as many people as you want to collaborate. Link to Google Analytics, MailChimp, YouTube and more to track analytics.

We think it’s super easy to use, but I’d be happy to walk you through it. Just give me a shout and we’ll set a time that works.
